Applying for Jobs

Applying for jobs can be a difficult process and there are lots of things to consider. When applying for jobs it is important to ensure that you have disclosed your disability on the application form as this will let employers know that they should follow the requirements of the Equality Act. It may also be useful to research whether the company you are applying for is a Disability Confident Employer. These employers have committed to making sure their organisation is dedicated to recruiting, retaining and developing disabled people. Also, informing employers that you have SEND needs and requirements before an interview is really important as this ensures that any extra support you may need is in place before you get there.

Employability Support

Our flagship programme will start on Monday 8th September, and we are encouraging women to participate. We are dedicated to supporting more women who wish to pursue a career in gas engineering.

What is the Skills Bootcamp Gas Engineering Programme?

Brent Council is collaborating with a Wembley-based training provider, Qualified 4 Life, to support residents aged 19 and over in obtaining a Level 3 diploma in gas engineering as part of the Skills Bootcamps for Londoners programme. This initiative is funded by the Mayor of London and the Department for Education under the Skills for Life campaign.

The intensive 16-week course offers in-demand skills training, a guaranteed job interview paying London Living Wage/above, and the potential for higher wages over time. Qualified 4 Life provides state-of-the-art training facilities that allow learners to engage in interactive classroom learning as well as practical experiences in a real working environment during workshop sessions. Experienced gas engineers lead the training, assisting learners in the classroom and coaching them to prepare for real-life scenarios and challenges.

This programme is part of Brent's borough plan to offer high-quality skills and job opportunities to its residents. No prior experience is required—only a strong interest in pursuing a career as a gas engineer. Additionally, it helps employers fill specific skill shortage vacancies.

If you know any women living in Brent who have a driver's license and are looking for a job or considering self-employment, please share this opportunity. We have two upcoming information sessions online and in person:

One Brent resident from the previous cohort, Ali Alseffer, shared, “The Gas Bootcamp course was such a positive experience for me. While it was challenging at times, the teachers and staff took the time to ensure that everyone understood the material to the best of their ability. Despite our different skill levels, we were all supported according to our individual needs. Thanks to Steve, Qualified 4 Life, and Brent Works for allowing me to be a part of this. I am now working in my chosen field.”

For more details, please refer to the flyer/feel free to email any queries.
