The Promise Foundation

We aim to tackle educational disadvantage by providing mentoring, advice, and skills training. Our core focus is on the group we term the ‘silent middles’ (by this we are referring to those young people who make up the bulk of the comprehensive educational system – those who are not identified as ‘Gifted and Talented’ nor displaying Special Educational Needs and therefore have no access to specific public funding or extra support).

Quotes from young people

"I went into care when I was 13. I moved around a lot but I have now settled with my grandmother. I love her very much and she has basically taken on the role as my mother. We have a really good relationship and if I need any anything she's always there to help. Even though life's been hard I have always dreamed big. Ever since I can remember I have always wanted to be a midwife. There is something about being near new life and a new beginning that excites me. Meeting my mentor Christina has been amazing. Since September Christina has helped me plan and set achievable goals through weekly one to one meetings. Her investment in me means that I can now work towards my dream of becoming a midwife. Through Christina's help I am currently doing work experience at St Mary's Hospital. I am predicted to leave QPCS with more than 5 A-Cs. Because of my relationship with Christina my Biology results have improved. When I met Christina I was on grade D now I'm on C and I hope to stay on at Sixth Form to do my A-Levels. The year hasn't been a walk in the park! I have struggled to believe that someone like me can achieve more than my or others people's expectations. Thank you Promise Foundation for pairing me with the wonderful Christina. Thank you so much for changing my life and focus Christina!" - Abigail 15
