First Rung

Here at First Rung we have been supporting young people across North London since 1983.

As a smaller training provider, we offer a different post-16 option, First Rung specialises in supporting young people into training and apprenticeships. No matter what qualifications they receive we have a programme to support their needs. 

We offer learners:

A caring, genuine and highly professional staff who do everything they can to help young people achieve their objectives including vocational qualifications, jobs, further education and apprenticeships

High expectations for all our learners, regardless of their starting point.

First Rung Apprenticeships in:
• Accounting (AAT)
• Business Administration
• Early Years
• Teaching Assistant

We also are running FREE adult courses in

  • Health and Social Care Level 2
  • Health and Social Care Level 3
  • Multiply

Training is delivered from both our Ponders End EN3 and Colindale NW9 centres.

As your local training provider, we’d love to welcome you to our centres, introduce you to our learners, and share insights into our training programmes and apprenticeship opportunities.


At First Rung, we specialise in supporting young people into training and apprenticeships, offering an alternative post-16 pathway tailored to their needs—regardless of their qualifications.


We also provide:
Alternative Provision for Year 10 and 11 students at risk of disengaging from school
Specialised Support for 16-24-year-olds with an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP)
Health & Social Care Training (Level 2 & 3) for 19+

Additionally, if you'd like First Rung to support your students on GCSE results day, we’d be happy to have a staff member present to offer guidance and advice.


We’re also hosting a FREE webinar on Tuesday 13 May, 2025, focused on hiring an apprentice and how it can benefit your school or business. If you’re looking for administrative or teaching assistant support, this session will provide valuable insights into the process and advantages of taking on an apprentice. Register here

First Rung also has our Network meeting coming up, If you work with young people or support with post-16 career options, then this is a great opportunity to meet with partners to see how we can all work together to offer the best advice and guidance to local young people.
