IntoUniversity - Volunteering opportunity for young people 16+
We are offering volunteering opportunities for young people aged 16+.
Role: Academic Support Tutor
Young people can volunteer with us by being an Academic Support Tutor. This involves volunteering at our Academic Support sessions for under 2 hours a week. Our volunteers support younger students with homework, revision, and study skills, or with IntoUniversity's structured curriculum. Depending on the session, they may work 1:1 or with a group of students. This is an excellent opportunity for young people who are interested in working with children, and want to develop their confidence and communication.
Academic Support sessions take place at the following times at IntoUniversity Brent, Bathurst Gardens, NW10 5HX: (Volunteers can choose which session they would prefer to support.)
Monday and Thursday, 4:00pm - 5.30pm, for Secondary School Students, aged 11-17
Tuesday and Wednesday, 3:30pm - 5pm, for Primary School Students, aged 7-11
Requirements: The minimum age requirement for our Academic Support Tutors is 16 years old, so the opportunity is open to older secondary school students.
Volunteers do need a pass grade
• (e.g., a C or a 4) in GCSE English and Maths or an equivalent Level 2 qualification, so that they can confidently assist younger students with these subjects.
If students are 16 years old but have not yet taken their Level 2 examinations, we would encourage them to apply anyway we can discuss the logistics of qualifications during the application process
Support for volunteers:
• Full training in advance of beginning the role
• Ongoing support and training opportunities
• Flexibility around e.g., exams/appointments
