Capel Manor College

We are London’s environmental college, offering a diverse range of full and part-time courses in further and higher education for young people and adults. Our subject areas include Agriculture, Animal Management, Arboriculture and Forestry, Business Skills, Floristry and Event Styling, Foundation Learning, Horticulture and Professional Landscaping, Saddlery and Shoemaking and, Wildlife and Environmental Conservation.

We are committed to inclusive education and set out to ensure every student is given the opportunity to make the most of their individual skills and abilities. Students at Capel Manor College have access to Learning Support Assistants (in-class support), careers advice, visual and hearing impairment support, extra tuition, pastoral support, and specialist dyslexia, speech and language therapy.

 

The college offers an Entry 3 (below GCSE) Level course for students with learning disabilities called Access to Education. This includes units on horticulture, animal care, English, math's, IT and tutorial units. Students with additional needs are supported to develop more independence in their learning, depending on the type of course they are studying. The college offers a range of support including:
•In-class learning support assistants
•A full-time communication support work to assist deaf students
•Assignment support sessions
•English and math's support sessions
•Study skills
•Mentoring/behavior management
•Counselling
•Communication support workers for deaf or hearing impaired students
•Financial support (bursary based on need)
•Equipment for those with an assessed need (e.g. Dictaphones). The college talks to potential new students about their needs, what sort of support they have had in the past and what they might need at the college. Information is also gathered from their school’s special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO), careers service and other relevant professionals. This information is shared with course tutors to make sure the right support is in place before the student starts. The college also works with parents/careers to ensure there are effective transition arrangements in place.
