Shaw Trust has been delivering the Brent Connexions Service since 2006
We provide information, advice and guidance to support the future career and aspirations of young people in Brent who are not in education, employment or training. Our dedicated staff support hundreds of young people a year, offering them Careers Advice along with employability support (CV writing, Job applications, Job Search), The Brent Team also provide Intensive support and mentoring to those young people who face multiple barriers to accessing education or employment and work alongside partners to deliver a range of opportunity events. Our free service can be accessed from drop-in centres across Brent, including family wellbeing centres / hubs.
The service is commissioned by Brent council, and after discussing the continuation of the service it was decided to refresh the branding with the aim to create an identity that service users could relate to and one that reflected the current needs of the community. We consulted over 100 users of the service and young people in the area on potential names for the new service and with 45% of the vote, Brent Youth Futures emerged as a clear winner. Branding workshops were also organised and facilitated by the Shaw Trust Marketing and Communications Team, that sought the views and ideas of young Brent Residents. The workshops also identified the values that young people wanted to see from the service which were Respectful, Welcoming
, Honest, Passionate and Supportive.
Who can use our service?
We work with young people aged 16 to 18 (up to 25 for those with a learning difficulty and/or disability), and their parents/carers.
From time-to-time we also run special projects to include support for 16 to 24-year-olds (with or without an EHCP). Please contact us for details.

Advisers can help with:
• post-16 options through one-to-one careers guidance interviews
• developing employability skills such as building CVs, completing application forms, interviews techniques & preparation etc.
• providing careers information on how to find specific jobs
• making referrals to opportunity providers who offer apprenticeships, traineeships and other forms of training
• completing transition forms for young people with a learning difficulty and/or disability, who are planning their next steps. •Intensive Mentoring Support (including Cognitive Behavioural Mentoring)
