Brent Virtual School

Hi my name is Deborah and I am the Primary LAC Advisory Teacher here in Brent. I used to be a class teacher but now I’m here helping young children fulfil and recognise their full potential. I speak on behalf of children to make sure their wants and needs are met. I’m here to support young children in every way I can from their academic success to their emotional well-being. It’ important to me to work closely with other teachers and carers to ensure the voices of the children are heard.

My name is Paul and I am the Lead Advisory Teacher for children with a social worker. I work in the Virtual School and I lead the Extended Duties Team.
I am a qualified teacher and have taught in Secondary, Primary and Special Schools before coming to work at the Virtual school. I worked in a number of schools in London, teaching and as part of the senior leadership teams. I have also worked in a variety of roles, from Teaching Assistant to Head Teacher. My last school, where I was the Deputy Head, was one of the largest Primary Schools in London with 960 pupils!
I’m a great believer in the power of education and its ability to communicate values, create a love of learning, raise aspirations and improve lives.

My name is Michaela and I am the Deputy Head of the Virtual School and the Service Manager for the Education Welfare Service.
I am a qualified English and Media studies teacher and before coming to work at the virtual school I worked in a number of schools, mainly in London, teaching and as part of the senior leadership teams.
I’m passionate about education and the opportunities that it offers but I’m equally passionate about young people and their happiness and wellbeing. This is why the virtual school promotes enrichment and extra-curricular activities as much as we promote achievement and attainment.

My name is Alison and I am the Post 16 Advisor for the Virtual School.
I am a qualified Lecturer and have taught Health and Social Care, Politics, Psychology and Pathway qualification for learners with special educational needs. Before working for the Virtual School I taught in colleges in and outside of London.
My role provides me with the opportunity to locate post 16 pathways that are appropriate for young people as well as ensuring that their voice is heard. My main is to inspire and support young people so that they can recognise their potential and achieve their best.

My name is Daniel and I am the Education Support Officer for Children in Need. I have been working with children since 1996. From working with Kids in Gangs in the USA, being a play and youth worker. I have worked in FE and Schools for a number of years working with children from all walks of life. Now working within the Virtual School I pride myself in striving to support all our children and young people working alongside Social Workers, Schools and families to support and raise the education aspriation and achievement of children on a CIN or CP plan

I am the KS4 Advisory Teacher in the team and monitor and track Yr 10 and 11 pupils. I have been in the team since 2004 so have worked with many pupils over the years. I see my role as like an education champion and advocate, supporting young people to be in education, have aspirations and leave school at the end of year 11 with qualifications to progress on to the next stage of their education journey. I really believe education is the one thing young people can use to create a better future for themselves. At times it is not easy for young people in care who face many challenges but ultimately we want them to achieve their potential and our job is to work with the key professionals including carer, designated teacher and social worker to make sure they are well supported. I also lead on training in the Virtual School which involves working with different professionals to support and empower them in the education championing of our young people!
