School Nurses help promote and look after children and young people’s physical and emotional health. They work across education and health, providing a link between school and home for children and young people aged 5 to 19-years-old and have two main roles:
• to give confidential advice and care to young people and their parents and/or carers
• to look after and protect a young person's physical and emotional health
Brent has a School Nursing team working with schools across the borough and every school has an allocated School Nurse. The team delivers a range of programmes and support including:
• developmental screening including height, weight, vision and hearing for children in Reception
• health, relationship and sex education
• support for children with special needs, their families and schools
• delivery of medical conditions training to school staff
• referrals to a weight management service for 5 to 19-year-olds
• safeguarding children
• advice and support for teachers
Referrals to the service can be made by schools via the referral form below - please send to clcht.brentsnspaduty@nhs.net. Parents, children and young people can also self-refer and will need to provide details such as their name, address, date of birth, GP and school.
